70chev
Has anyone posted about this car? I doubt it came from the factory like that..... https://www.clasiq.com/auction/1970-chevrolet-monte-carlo/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=2.+Buyers+-+Newly+Released+Auction+-+Cars+for+Sale+Following+Week+(8-15+Days+Left)&utm_term=MOF%2FBOF+Retargeting+-+Following+Week+Auction+(8-15+Day+Cars)&utm_content=CAR++-+1970+Chevrolet+Monte+Carlo+-+396+4-speed+-+Week+87-1
72-CLASSIC_RIDE
I read down further in the description and it states GM marketed it as a 396 in 1970 knowing really, it was a 402 CI. That's his explanation. Doug
Rob Peters
The build sheet does show it as a 400 4-speed and the engine code CKR breaks down as a 400. It being a factory 400 4-speed does make it a desirable car, especially if it is a numbers matching Monte. rob CHEVELLE * MONTE CARLO 1970 Code Prefix 1970 Code Prefix 6-250 P/G, Taxi& Police CCM 8-396 HDC, 375hp CKQ 6-250 T/H, Taxi& Police CCK 8-396 HDC, 375hp CKU 6-250 M/T, Taxi& Police CCL 8-396 M/T, 375hp CKT 8-307 Std. tran CNC 8-400 T/H, 325hp CKN 8-307 4 sp. trans CND 8-400 M/T, 330hp CKR

70chev
Thanks for the Info! Considering they manuals are non-existent I was very skeptical!! 62K is crazy money, but I see why now!!

Dtret
The build sheet will specify it was a special order car.
EVC
The tach is on the right hand side.. Is that factory ?
Dtret
I wanna say no. But I don’t believe the redline is factory. Lol.

My tach is after market and looks exactly like this cars tach.... I wanted to put it on the left but that would have required major surgery on the gage circuit panel … That was above my skill levels, so I put it in the old clock position …
Rob Peters
The TACH came as the gage package which replaced the idiot lights. If you look at his TACH you will see that it was added and the clock removed because the hole for the clock adjustment stem is still there. rob

Keeps the dust out .… I'd wager that if this car were stock it would have the factory gage package…. The factory redline for a small block was 5k and a big block 5500. It is known that the tachs did get mixed up at times and the correct position is to the left where the big gas gauge is/ would have been.
overdrive
I have several SS454 build sheets with the 5k tach. Not sure why they built them both ways on purpose, but they did. Dan

LDG3
Those "396" emblems are the same ones on my 69 Chevelle SS. They used them in 1970 as well.

LDG3
I know that we're never on Monte's. I was saying the owners clearly put 396 emblems on it.
