I must be on my way to a recovery. Tuesday evening I finally felt I could drive the Monte. I pulled it out of my storage garage and took it to a small car cruise. It was nice to drive it, even if it was only for a couple miles. I may try to go to a local Octoberfest in Greentree on Saturday if the weather is nice.

I saw the doctor yesterday. The recovery is progressing for the most part. I was scheduld to go back to work on September 24th but my doctor has asked for an extension to October 8th. An outside company handles our company Short Term Disability and is a go-between for the doctors and our company. This company pays my company my salary for the duration of my disability. The nice thing about this is the company can not be accused of trying to force me back to work before I am ready and they are not allowed to contact me directly without going through the disability management company unless I approve them to talk to me.

The disability company called me following my Dr appt and when I told them I had to go to a Ear Nose and Throat specialist on Thursday due to possible damage to my throat by the hospital when they tried to force the tube back down my throat after the surgery when I could not breath the disability company has extended my return to work date to October 23rd. but I asked them if I am feeling up to it if I can go back sooner than that and they said that is fine but they wanted it extended that far out to make sure.

I still have a visiting nurse come to the house and a physical theapist too plus taking several walks in the neighborhood each day, weather permitting.

It amazes people that a simple (yet painful) kidney stone attack could reek such a result as it has. There are days I can't believe I am still so weak. Patsy is wondering if I will every be back to my old self. This has for sure been a life changing event. Never take the health you have for granted. I haven't lost any more weight, but wish I could lose about another 20 pounds. I seem to be stuck at a loss of 35 pounds.

On the road to recovery....

Glad you are progressing. I'm sure you are getting stronger by the day. When you can walk a couple blocks to that big dip in the road and not get stuck in there...you are getting stronger! Or won't Patsy let you walk that far again? lol

Scott, still avoiding hills. With all the fluids I am drinking I get enough up and down exercise heading upstairs to the bathroom. smilesmile

They still can't figure out why I have this cough. I saw an Ear Nose and Throat specialist yesterday. He could not find a cause. It had been thought maybe the hospital had damaged my wind pipe but from what this test showed they could not find anything. The E,N & T specialist ran a scope down my throat and since he could find nothing he has ordered a video scope test at another specialist.

I had lab tests done Monday and the E-Coli infection is now back.... this is one of the things that put me back in the hospital. As of Monday I was down to only two R/X's but now I am back up to 6 meds I have to take once or more each day. I am so bummed, because things are not progressing. I must not be in as good of shape as I thought I was. I am doing everything the doctors, visiting nurses and physical therapists and things just don't seem to be moving like they should.

Sorry to hear that Rob. In the end you must stay positive regardless. Seems like you are fighting a tough fight. Keep the postive attitude and continue doing all they ask of you. Hopefully, some day soon this will all be behind you.

Just remember this could have happened to any of us! Do us proud and beat this damn thing !!

I almost had a heart attack today.......Not really but today a huge envelope came in the mail from the insurance company. We have been recieving these envloupes every week since the end of August.

Inside these envelopes is statements from all of the doctors, labs, operating rooms, visiting nurses, visiting physical therapists etc, etc. I totaled up all of these statements and the total billed to the insurance company so far (and all of the bills have not arrived at the insurance company yet)..... are you ready for this. The total so far is just shy of $220,000.00. I didn't really almost have a heart attack but it shocked me. The one that arrived today contained one showing what the first hospital billed and that alone was $199,000.00 which included the Operation, ICU and some of the tests.

I know the insurance company negotiates huge discounts so the hospital doesn't get near that much but it is still shocking to see the cost of health care. I didn't have the guts to add up how much of this is our responsibility, I guess I will have to do that in the near future.
