New member but old lurker here. I wanted to join the ranks of a paying member to make sure this place stays around as long as possible. I have a 1970 402 BB - Auto, factory buckets and console w/ power windows, Flint-built 08C-third week of August '69, Color 78-Black Cherry w/ B-Black vinyl top. It now has a transplanted 454 bored .030 over, dual plane Weiand intake and a dual line 650 Holley carb. Just got it running along with all new calipers, lines, discs, bearings and pads up front and new trailing arms w/ poly bushings out back. I've had the car for over 30 yrs but life and kids got in the way of working on it more often. So now I am, little by little. I've been so thankful for the information I've found here and hope to find more as well as friends in the hobby. If you are near Nashville, TN, "holler back", as they say ! Some old pics as well as some recent ones are attached as I've worked on it here lately. Dennis Bagwell10 points

Well, we are at the last days of the 70' and tomorrow we will enter the 60's. Today marks 70 days and a wake-up until members start arriving in Carlisle. 70 was also the first and arguably the best year of all Monte Carlos. JMO rob6 points

Patsy gave me a set of AC Delco Rapid Fire spark plugs for Christmas for my Monte. I just got a chance to install them a couple days ago. When I started the car it really ran horribly. It was missing on at least two cylinders. Today I headed up to the storage garage and installed my old plugs that I had removed to install the AC Delco Rapidfire plugs. I was surprised when, no questions asked, when Orielly's Auto Parts was willing to give me a full refund. I then bought the AC Delco R45 plugs. I didn't get a chance to install them yet. When I looked at the Rapidfire plugs I removed, it looked like two of them never fired while 6 of them you could tell were not a problem. I know it was not the plug wires because it ran fine when I put it away last year and after reinstalling my old plugs it ran good again. I do not recommend the Rapidfire plugs. The first thing I noticed about them was from the base that seats in the head, the exposed porcelain portion and electrode were longer than the original R45 plugs that were in there before. rob5 points

Welcome to the madness π€I too was a lurker when shopping for a Monte and became a dues paying member the day it arrived in my driveway π€£ Thanks for your support, as you know lots of info and knowledge here There's a mini-meet in Bristol in May (check the threads) and a BIG MEET in Carlisle in June. You don't have to bring the Monte to hang out and enjoy the festivities and meet the people from the club.5 points

Found another old one of my interior. I need to refresh it for sure but it's all original ! ('cept the '80's Pioneer cassette radio, which no longer works)βΊοΈ I want to: 1) Get a hinge for the console door 2) Get a lock catch for the console door 3) it has a lock but the key doesn't work. Does anyone know if it can be re-tumblered (is that a word?) 4) need a new steering wheel as the plastic has split and broken off in the back and sides. It's mostly covered with a '80's steering wheel wrap, the kind you used to have to "sew" onto the wheel but I would sacrifice that for a better wheel ! 5) Figure out why the console light no longer lights up and the headliner light won't light up. 6) Tackle the dreaded "gauge bulbs" 'cause the only thing I can see in the dash at night is how much gas I got. Guess as long as you got gas it doesn't matter how fast you're goin', right ?? π I wasn't very good at taking pictures with my old flip phone some years ago, sorry. Thanks for all the welcomes as well !! Dennis Bagwell5 points

1). No issue. Available 2). Same as 1 3). Check your other key also. And yes they can be re- tumbled. 4). steering wheels are available used or repop. 5). check to make sure the orange wire is plugged into the fuse box. Check fuse while youβre there. Corrosion in the box can also cause that. Could be a circuit issue, check the tabs on the back of the sockets to make sure that they are connecting to the circuit. 6). Pull the dash pad and start checking bulbs. Not fun but doable. I think it was probably more the quality of the phone than the operator.4 points

I am back at home after hopefully my final back procedure for a while seems much better for the moment, still not 100% but way better than it was. Probably never be 100 % because of arthritis and age. Going to put off radiation treatment until end of summer, don't want to ruin summer plans. Talked to my Dr he's said get it over with but said it won't hurt if I wait until September. My summer last year was totally crap because of my back and not going to miss another cruising season. But getting back to original topic yes get tested it could save a lot of hassle and your life. We got a lot of life in us and I want to live it.4 points

Took the first ride since the new battery a month ago. Cranked very quickly and fired up faster than I expected. Took a short drive and all is not too bad... 1- Trans leaking 2- Plastic right inner fender cracked (nothing new) big time.3 points

I agree, get tested. Today is my 10-year anniversary of having my prostate removed. The doctor told me that radiation would have never got rid of the cancer, and I would have been gone in 5 years.3 points

If someone from central New York would stop bringing it up it would not be so popular. Hmmm. Itβs getting kinda trendy though. I wonder if I get a cut of the dough from the sales??? Imma need to have a chat with someone.3 points

Steve, your car looks fantastic ! The blacked out grille along with the cowl hood, really sets that car out in a crowd. Also matching the interior for a complete package ! VERY NICE π2 points

When does production start on orders for Smurf Custom Hood Scoops ? π€£2 points

Hey Rob... IF memory serves, I believe that the rapidfire plugs were only compatible with H.E.I. type ignitions. Did try them in my 3.8 L Buick and they weren't bad, better than some of those multi tipped ones. Scott.2 points

I had heard that within the last few years the accuracy of the radiation had improved significantly.2 points

Mine was very large. My brother had his treated with radiation and all is good. Good luck2 points

Welcome to the members group. We do appreciate you helping the group. I have learned that the dues are a very small pittance for what we can possibly give in return. The information, as you know, is endless. Good luck on your future projects on your car. We are always around to help you out with any questions you may have. Thank you from just north in Cincinnati.2 points

Welcome Dennis! Like Joe said, we love pics! Lolol Love the color of your Monte.2 points

He said radiation will get rid of it, because it is such a small amount and very low grade. We'll see were going to keep a close eye in it.2 points

I don't think 70 used that cannister unless you have a California emissions car2 points

Here's the RPO codes for that ATS. Wasn't a bad vehicle, had a turbo 4 cylinder though. Looks like owner had it serviced at dealer regularly, no major issues except a radio replacement and a few field action recalls. Initial delivery to Crestmont Cadillac, Beechwood, Ohio I'll start gathering schematics and electrical connector views in a couple days.1 point

I look forward to seeing the progress. I ordered my interior stuff from a few different vendors depending on the product I needed. You still have time to get it ready for the Western Meet in September. π1 point

Sold for $57,000 plus commission. Instead of $62,700 they could have had my 71 SS for $55k. π1 point

Good catch there Jared!! I was thinking the same thing. I have to get a new front bumper for my Monte. The engine for my ( dare I say) '88 Fiero Formula, made a scratch in mine. Broke my wrist for it though, so now I'm thinking about shortening it up like they did in NASCAR back in the day. Thoughts?1 point

She is wrong about residue from the chrome process. In preparing the bumper to be chromed the entire bumper is stripped. Only the front, exposed area is plated. The rear is usually left with a light coating of something from the process. When I had my rear bumper rechromed I painted the rear of it to avoid the rust like is on the one you pictured. The one you pictured should be able to ve sanded, primed and painted. rob1 point
