Thank you, guys. Hi Denny. I can make and supply the brackets. I copy my original pair so that they look and fit the same as the originals do. I start with 4 pieces of sheetmetal and I finish the welds to look like they were stamped. I've sold 2 pairs in the last week. All of my products come with a satisfaction guarantee. The brackets are $240 shipped to the 50 states. Dan Janes 573-248-1389 dpjfabts3@gmail.com5 points

To me, all 3 are essential. GM Service Manual, Assembly Manual, and Fisher Body Manual. The GM overhaul manual comes in handy sometimes, but focus more on specific parts such as the transmission, rear diff, power steering pump/gear, etc. It's a deep dive in the repair/overhaul of major parts. You can buy a CD with all 4 manuals on it for around $35 from a couple different sources. I tend to like the paper manuals though, so I have those on hand for the year cars I own, as well as the CD's.4 points

The 11,000 mile 1972 I sold last year had the rare option of the two-tone chrome trim but the car was all one colour. It turns out that this rare option could only be ordered at the Canadian factory. Based on the total numbers of Montes with the D99 two-tone trim built in Canada I speculate less than 100 were ordered in all one colour. Note that the trim did not have paint on it like the vinyl roof cars had. When I first got the car I questioned that it could come from the factory this way but was able to verify it with the line sheet (canadian build sheet) and the GM Canada documentation.4 points

I did order the POWER TRUNK Release because I was still delivering the Detroit News paper. My dad had a vacuum operated PT release on his 66 Olds 98. I thought that was so cool so I ordered it! Funny story.... I have always used my PTR since day one and even removed the key from my key ring until one day 3 years ago, it would NOT open!! I went and got my trunk key and guess what, YEP, it wouldn't open!!!. All this time I had the wrong keys for the trunk from the dealership and didn't know it. I pushed the green button about 100 times and it did open. I took the lock cylinder and keys to a locksmith store and had it repaired. Now both work. I also ordered the SPORT Strg wheel, great option! (It does get sticky over the winter)4 points

Many thanks everyone for the quick replies and warm welcome, it is much appreciated! I will do some searching for GM manuals. I know he likes to stick to himself, which is where I come in since I am quite a bit younger haha, but I will mention it to him. I need to get some pictures of him and the car, all I have is this video (hopefully it uploaded). IMG_5291.MOV3 points

Pretty cool! Across all 1971 Chevy A-body cars, only 1,186 bucket cars had power seats.3 points

Worse case scenario, you need 12v to the switch going in and a wire on the other terminal to the kickdown terminal of the transmission.2 points

It is very common that someone strips the paint from the trim on vinyl top cars. It had a tendency to be rubbed off in some areas and stripping it is easier than repainting it. I stripped mine on my 1970 Monte in 2000. I just recently found out that the trim on all the two-tone trim cars were left unpainted. I had previously assumed that, for example, if the car had a white painted roof the trim was also white but that’s not the case. They only did the painted trim for vinyl roof cars.2 points

Welcome, beautiful car. The Assembly and the Fisher Body manuals are the way to go. They are dedicated to a specific year. All the others try to cover too many years in one book. I also have the GM Chassis Service manual. Admittedly it covers other Chevrolets of that same year.2 points

Some sort of hydraulic lift/platform that comes out from under the car..... Then tucks away while driving. Could also double as a jack system for tire changes.2 points

I would agree with Joe, call a driveshaft repair. They will have the parts and know what the best course of action will be!!!2 points

Get the gm assembly manual and the fisher body manual. Book or cd versions are available.2 points

Mine is a factory two-tone and it has the fiber optic light monitor system, wiper wash monitor and vanity mirror. None of them super common but very rare in combination on same car. rob2 points

Less than 1 season? That’s bad. Were you able to recoup your money through a warranty?2 points

They sure do. Their color coat automotive interior paint works well. They also make a mild solvent based wax and grease remover for prep, which is extremely important because of all the silicone based spray and wipe protectants used on interiors. Silicone is a painters worst nightmare.2 points

Thanks to this discussion about two tone paint jobs, I learned the following: -Two tone paint used unpainted vinyl reveal moldings. -Only Canada builds could have two tone paint with the same color. As the “normal” vinyl reveal moldings (for a vinyl roof) are painted a special paint that didn’t match exterior or exterior paints, these moldings were pre-painted and ready on the assembly line as sets for vinyl top cars. They would also need to have unpainted sets available for the two tone paint cars. The 1971 GM parts catalog shows a single part number for each reveal molding so I would assume they came without paint. I wonder what kind of buyer would order a two tone car with matching top & bottom colors? 🤔 Now, where’s that guy with the low option 402 car with manual steering?1 point

It’s funny you mentioned the lack of paint on the trim. Before reading your post the first thing I did was zoom in on the trim to check for paint. The trim on my black vinyl top does not have paint. I assume that it was either stripped because of flaking paint, or replaced. I’m also assuming that replacement molding probably came unpainted. In your situation it makes sense why the factory left it unpainted.1 point

Not my type of a modification I like on a car but some like it. What does amaze me is someone who builds it and then turns around and tries to sell it. The market for it has to be (and I am guessing) like 1% of the classic car market.1 point

Took Montelishi out for her first run on the new Bilsteins..... I'd have to say I liked them. I understand your point Mark, but after the KYB's failed in less than one season, I figured the extra $$$ was worth a try.1 point

In a few days we will be leaving the 50's in our countdown and entering uncharted territory, for this year, because we are now at 53 days and a wake-up until our first members begin arriving in Carlisle to begin our Eastern Meet. rob1 point

Willie, I went through my build sheet for my 71, and as Glen said, there’s nothing that addresses the s/b holders for the console.i just assumed that at least on the 71s, they all had them. My first 71 that I bought in 74 had them. As for the chrome trim, I’m sure it was necessary to keep the mounting screws from pulling through the somewhat soft material the cups were made of over time.1 point
