I"m deff buying it after I confirm numbers. and I will come back with alot more pictures. I have 5 ,72 montes. one 402 others, 4 small blocks. 1 restored , 1 with 34k miles and 2 are project cars. 1969 gto judge clone and last years 67 chevelle ss clone. All need something done. I have had 10 montes since high school. I just feel I should get a ss car and get one while its reasonable. Hagerty loves me and I Love Montes6 points

Wow! Found this great deal on a new clock for my Monte... at the suggestion of one of my well know club members.. so,, I looked it up and was this great price ! Wasn’t eBay , ordered it cause it really looked good .. ordered it on April 1st.. received it today.. strange , it didn’t look that big on line... can’t seem to get it to fit in the dash 😩.. guess I could just hang it on the wall in the garage till I figure it out where it goes .... thanks Rob 🤣...6 points

Hello, I found a local car. The older man says it was restored with 2000 miles since restore, He bought it last September, He thought it would be more room then his 1970 chevelle he sold . He says he can't fit in it comfortably Im big too, so i would probably put extender brackets to get more room. He doesn.t have any paper work or build sheet. maybe its under rear seat. Is it worth mid 30.s . I see some cars from Flint MI didn't have certain paperwork? I am going to look at it next Monday. I would rather have a black car or red with buckets. but this is 1st one I,ve seen locally and i like to buy locally. I see good deals on mecum auctions also . it has alot of options,, but he said it was a dealership owners cars from the midwest and he bought from a classic car dealer from FL, I would appreciate some advise and input of more knowable members that know from owning one. I am just going to get some camera picture of the rear of the block also,, thanks Keith4 points

I also saw this car on craigslist. Looks to be a very honest and correct car with lots of options. Power seat, windows, locks, gauges, vigilite system, washer fluid monitor it even has the heat riser on the exhaust manifold and I think it's a very fair price. Good luck4 points

thanks for the input. I told the guy i would come out Sunday. He's a hour or so from me. I will have hagerty tow it back. I need to review the vin codes and aslong as the vin is on the block with correct crn code. then it should be legit. Deff. looks like a straight car. I'm sure the steering wheel has the cracks in them, but im sure theres a way to restore that or a oem replacment4 points

Jim, sounds good. You can talk with me in Carlisle. Maybe include Jay Munday and Joe and any other retirees. From my end, I will hit 10 years of retirement this September/October and I have not looked back at all. In reality I retired about 2 to 3 years before I had intended to due to the company trying to work me to death.... those who knew me back then are aware they almost succeeded in killing me... that and a doctor who screwed up on an out patient procedure but that is in the past now. rob4 points

Have seen that car on Craigslist. Looks to be a well optioned, well presented SS. Extremely nice car. If I remember correctly the asking price was 38k. Like others have said, snap it up if you can. I feel it's a bargain for such a nice, well optioned SS. And if it's a Flint built car, no build sheet. The only thing I didn't like is the 72 hood spear and incorrect air cleaner sticker. Not a deal breaker though.4 points

Looks nice, what's up with those radio knobs ? No p/w and the 350 ended my interest, but I did like the full gauge package on the dash.3 points

The tranny has been disassembled and reassembly started. A gear had failed in the roller pins had chewed up some gears thus the grinding coming from below. Frank also found another part broken that would have caused a catastrophic failure in the very near future. The gear and broken part are not related to each other. The tranny supposedly had been rebuilt by a shop in northern Indiana before it was installed in the car by the previous owner. Frank said they did a pi$$ poor job on the previous rebuild as he found several thing not quite right. We also found that the Fly wheel/Flex Plate had a few teeth that had been gnawed on so he has a new one ordered and he is going to thoroughly inspect the meshing of the starter gear and the teeth on flex plate. It will now be better than it has ever been under my ownership.3 points

Get well my friend, I just hope it was all for the better. I'm kinda in the same boat, can't sleep when I need to. Gotta be from worrying about retirement. When I see you in Carlisle We're going to share some stories about retirement strategies. Thoughts and prayers going out to you for a speedy recovery.3 points

Who knows why people do what they do, lol. Looks like an aftermarket radio, there may be secondary functions with the knobs that needed the extra knob pieces. The twin rear antennae are an immediate turn-off too, . I told the guy that black was a special order option for '72, that's why I asked for a pic of the cowl tag. Guessing it's probably a color change repaint, but who knows. The blue 'GM' decals in the door jambs don't belong there either. Looks like it has that 'Washer Fluid' monitor system on it too. Also asked about a build sheet, but he danced around looking for one.2 points

I thought it may damage the bumper or worse like breaking off the hitch and totaling the car and what ever I was pulling.2 points

Thats the first thing I thought of when reading Ron's post.......Flavor Flav 🤣2 points

Like 1970mcss said, it should have the SS style exhaust tips. It has a power bench, way more rare than buckets along with the fender optics. I understand wanting the buckets though. I'm also a "big guy" and owning both a 1970 SS, "Big Red" with buckets and a 1971 402 auto, "Barn Find" with a power bench, I can tell you I fit better in the power bench car as opposed to the bucket seat car. Just saying. Lol2 points

I think that's pretty cool ! just not so sure it's going to fit in the Monte You could pull a Flavor Flav !! As suggested , Just hang it from the rear view mirror 😂2 points

Grant - I have a bad modulator - tool off the vent tube at trans and ATF came out. Tested it off for vacuum - zero…you nailed it along with others, Thanks and still working on tweaking some things. thanks all!!! Keith2 points

I looks like a well optioned car. The lamp monitors are a nice option. You could check to see if the engine stamping is correct, does it have the shock guards in the rear. In my opinion if the car is a true SS it's worth mid 30's.2 points

That’s pos70 is never getting finished. All the energy I have left I use to think about working on it. And that makes me sleepy. Lol. I’m still hunting for the proper 72. I hope I don’t find it. Off to wire a trailer.2 points

An elusive chap. Perhaps even more so than that “George” guy from the greater Chicagoland area with the Shadow Gray ‘70 🤔2 points

I have completed the pre-screening process for "Inspire". Inspire is an implant that will, hopefully, eliminate my need to use a C-Pap machine to sleep due to severe obstructive sleep Apnea. I had the 2 ¹/² to 3 hour implant surgery this past Wednesday and it should be active in about a month. Here are a couple post surgery photos. rob1 point

So I go out and climb under the car figuring I'll do a little sprucing up while the gas tank is out here's what I found. This is a 52 year old unrestored car, I can't believe the shape some of this thing is in. I knew 15 years ago when I bought it it was nice (except for paint and stuff po did) but now 15 years later it still looks great under there very light surface rust where there is any. That's original factory paint and yes original factory fuel lines and they are still in great shape. I got lucky when I found this one. Sorry for lousy pictures.1 point

Looks like they posted some pics of the black 72 yesterday. No cowl tag pics, or a price. He said something around $40K in the phone conversation, but wasn't really sure at that point. A couple of interesting issues. He said there was some paint flaws on the truck lid, but no pics of that either. https://www.admcars.com/1972-chevrolet-monte-carlo-black-350ci-ps-pb-ac-c-1394.htm?sold=1 point

Yes it should have the chrome exhaust tips but easy to fix, they are still available. It also has the heat riser tube which is the hardest thing to find for these cars1 point

Yes its craigslisted 12 days ago. I emailed last week and he calls me at 2 pm yesterday, but knew rush hour will be there 4 hours later and bank probably closed by the time i looked it over. the rear exhaust is standard exit piping right side more visable then left tip and under bumper I thought ss would have the chrome tips? oval like chevelle have ? which is correct? thanks for the input. If I dont get there soon enough then its not meant to be. bucket seat car . would have done rush hour. But i can live with forest green. lol1 point

Few minor details but for the money you can correct them and still be in it right. If motor matches that is about as good as a flint car gets.👍1 point

I was never uncomfortable towing my little utility trailer with my Monte but it probably didn't weigh 1000 pounds. One year at the Syracuse nationals I had the car parked in front of my 30 foot camper and a guy stopped to look at the car and while walking around it stopped and asked if I towed the trailer with this car? Lol I said no way no that wouldn't work.but I don't think I'd want to tow a lot with it.1 point
