  1. Did you ever notice... on so many of the Facebook groups dedicated to the First Generation Monte Carlo how many Scam Ads and Knock -Off T-Shirt ads they have. If yes, have you also noticed that don't see much of that here on the FGMCC site or even the Facebook group that Aaron (Canuck) manages. That is because of the screening process we use here when someone wants access to post on the site. Even if some of them do get through it is almost always quickly noticed by our moderators and admins and those posts are quickly removed and the poster banned from the site. We rarely have members scammed on items posted for sale here and we rarely have to remove posts or ban people from posting. This is a very safe place to come to for your needs. rob

  2. Got delayed today, not complaining I was with good people. Anyway, got in the garage late, put on the battery charger, got it off the jack stands, topped off the air shocks, tires, checked the oil and rad. The rad looked a little low so I'm off in the morning to get some distilled water. Works for me so I can go to the car wash and clean 2K roadtrip grime off the truck. Also bought a TPMS for the trailer and have to get that set up. Plan is to be on a cruise tomorrow, and test the line lock and lay down some smoke 🤣

  3. It’s not what I did to the Monte today. It’s what I’m doing for the Monte’s. lol. In process of picking this up and relocating it to my property ( no 2x4’s involved). 16 x36. Not pretty now but we’ll see how it goes. Don’t know if I will put cars in it yet but it will be great for parts.

  5. FINALY 🤣 Maiden post hibernation cruise today, beautiful day low 70's. I was pulling back into the garage when I remember "someone" said I only post left side photos of the "imaginary" Monte so I backed up and took a right side photo 🤣

  7. Looks like the engine is in, so there is half the battle. Just need a drivers seat and dash, some working lights, bumpers and a windscreen and you could drive it the short distance to the Eastern Meet. To me that's about a week and a half of work, so there is no excuse not to drive it on over!

  8. So John, what you are saying is with 58 DAY'S AND A WAKE-UP remaining until our members start arriving in Carlisle, your car is right on pace to be at the Eastern Meet, right? rob

  9. To me, all 3 are essential. GM Service Manual, Assembly Manual, and Fisher Body Manual. The GM overhaul manual comes in handy sometimes, but focus more on specific parts such as the transmission, rear diff, power steering pump/gear, etc. It's a deep dive in the repair/overhaul of major parts. You can buy a CD with all 4 manuals on it for around $35 from a couple different sources. I tend to like the paper manuals though, so I have those on hand for the year cars I own, as well as the CD's.

  10. Bilsteins arrived. Found a coupon for a few extra bucks off. Saved $100 buying them in the BMR kit from Jegs.

  11. I guess it may be time to start to figure out where "Big Red" is and see what, if anything she may need after a LONG winters nap. 🤔

  12. Look at the vac line going to the transmission modulator. You may have pulled it off when redoing the lines.

  17. It’s June in 2022 and I began the overhaul of this beast , had to remove front end loader of course. Got the engine repair done over a year ago but didn’t reinstall loaded. Wanted to test engine for awhile.. anyway, decided engine ok so began reinstalling loaded this week after work, of course after 2 years it didn’t work. :(.. Had to call fo help on this one… the guy shows up Friday midday and didn’t finish till yesterday!. Drank all my cold beverages too!. I wanted to mow grass but he Insisted I stand and watch , geez.. these Sears repairmen are bossy.. He finally figured out the problem and got the loader back on, then, he even mowed my grass , yea… but I sure was tired even tho he did all the work. Bad thing was , no cold ones left for me :(… Cheers 🍻 Happy fix it day..

  21. The 11,000 mile 1972 I sold last year had the rare option of the two-tone chrome trim but the car was all one colour. It turns out that this rare option could only be ordered at the Canadian factory. Based on the total numbers of Montes with the D99 two-tone trim built in Canada I speculate less than 100 were ordered in all one colour. Note that the trim did not have paint on it like the vinyl roof cars had. When I first got the car I questioned that it could come from the factory this way but was able to verify it with the line sheet (canadian build sheet) and the GM Canada documentation.

  22. I did order the POWER TRUNK Release because I was still delivering the Detroit News paper. My dad had a vacuum operated PT release on his 66 Olds 98. I thought that was so cool so I ordered it! Funny story.... I have always used my PTR since day one and even removed the key from my key ring until one day 3 years ago, it would NOT open!! I went and got my trunk key and guess what, YEP, it wouldn't open!!!. All this time I had the wrong keys for the trunk from the dealership and didn't know it. I pushed the green button about 100 times and it did open. I took the lock cylinder and keys to a locksmith store and had it repaired. Now both work. I also ordered the SPORT Strg wheel, great option! (It does get sticky over the winter)

  23. Thank you, guys. Hi Denny. I can make and supply the brackets. I copy my original pair so that they look and fit the same as the originals do. I start with 4 pieces of sheetmetal and I finish the welds to look like they were stamped. I've sold 2 pairs in the last week. All of my products come with a satisfaction guarantee. The brackets are $240 shipped to the 50 states. Dan Janes 573-248-1389 dpjfabts3@gmail.com

  26. KYB has been around for just over 100 years, so they must be doing something right. They make a good shock. Had them on my 78 3/4 ton Chevy truck and they lasted many years. The consensus is the Bilsteins are better. But they’re twice as much money, and depending on your budget, and with the other modifications you are doing, the $$ rack up quickly, so I get where you’re coming from.

  27. The 55 Chevy was the first year of the Tri-five Chevrolet series. Fifty-Five, 55 and Double-Nickles all have the same meaning. That reminds me, we are now only 55 days and a wake-up away from our first members arriving in Carlisle to kick off our 2024 Eastern Meet. rob

  33. I think I’d look damn good rolling in that. And no need for a crane to get in it. I’ll just pick people up and throw them in. I took the liberty of photo shopping myself next to it for reference...

  38. First… welcome, Kevin! It’s a great group of people here, you will have no problem getting advice as you progress through your work. Willie, I’m late to the party on the cups you’re talking about. I saw the chatter about them in the other thread got distracted before I could respond. I didn’t think anything of them as both of my cars have them. I purchased a new set for when I had the interior redone on the ‘70, but the shop that did the install didn’t attach them to the new console (maybe they didn’t want to drill holes into a brand new piece?). Never inquired with the trim shop and just left the belts on the floor when not in use for now. Here’s a couple pics of the interior of the ‘70 as it arrived as well as a couple pictures of the cups in the ‘71. When the better half rides with me I make her go seatbelt-less and I use the passenger side cups for my smokes and garage door opener 🤣😂 (Kidding)

  39. Welcome Kevin. A couple days ago I was cruising around Facebook and seen your pictures. It didn’t take you long to tear in to it. Looks like a pretty nice car to rebuild or restore. You have started the process of getting involved with, in my opinion, the best Monte group. A great bunch of Monte heads here. You have questions, we are all here to help. Good luck on your project and hope to see you on the site often.

  41. That’s funny Willie. I just took a gas tank to the head today. Pretty decent gouge. lol. So the before pic will have previous marks. I worked on it about 4 hours Saturday and got all the electrical pulled. I also marked everything so the rebuild goes smoothly. We will see what the next trip brings back here.

  44. Ole Red is up and running. I am so tired of working on him that I hope I never have wrench on him again. Still some tweaking to do but we are close to being road worthy again. I’ve tried to up load the video I made but it keeps giving me a 200 error code so I am guessing it is to big of a file

  45. No rain today, altho we needed it. After I spent the day last month with the chainsaw cutting up the fallen trees I realized I was over my head. So had a crew tasked with the dead trees waiting to fall and the other sketchy ones . Now waiting on the fence crew.
