Great looking Monte and great pictures!

Question, what is the small square ~ 1" x 1" thing behind the rear window defroster?

That is the rear fiber optic indicators for the rear lights and license plate lamp.

Bruce,

Grant is correct, it is the vigilite fiber optic light monitor system option.  That option was only available in the 1970 Monte.  It had been available on other Chevrolet models such as the Impala, Chevelle, Caprice and maybe other's.  It is a fairly rare option.  After the 1970 year it was no longer an available option. It is factory installed on my Monte and is fully functional.

Replying to the fiber optics. I know a 71 Monte never had them.Only 1970 had that system. But I’m different. I thought that system was way before it’s time. Cool option. All parts are oem except the lenses in the front fender vigilites.

Carl, I don't blame you for wanting the system on your 71.  I don't think myself or anyone else was dissing your car because you or someone else may have installed them.  I know several people who have installed them on their first gen Monte's.  I agree with you that it was a "Coll Option".   I wish someone would reproduce the correct lens for these but due to the limited need for them I doubt anyone will.  I am wondering if anyone could produce them on a 3-D printer if they had an original set to use as a template.

I thought I knew all about Monte's but looks like you can learn always something. I remember the things on the top of the front fenders in 1970, but didn't know about the rear light things. No ER visit required........

Complete NOS set up on eBay right now. Look under 1970 Monte Carlo nos.

If this is the one you are talking about:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/165086044331?fits=Model%3AMonte+Carlo&hash=item266fe520ab:g:i3sAAOSwBsZhSq2i it is not for the 70 Monte.  It is a setup for a car with dual headlights (2 headlights on each side so the front fender bezel lens would not be right, plus it does not show the package tray indicator in the picture.

I have been living in Port St Lucie, Fl for two years as of 7 Aug. Covet 19 held me back for crossing the Connecticut boarder. Kept thinking when I would get there. Sorry for the sideway pictures. I know everyone likes pictures so I ll keep posting them.

Hey Delmonte. Maybe someday we can meet half way. I think you are around 70 miles from PSL. I was a snowbird for 5 years. I had a condo in Vero beach.
I hav a neighbor with the last name Delmonte. Also there is Sal Monte.
