I gotta tell everyone here that I love this family, yes I said family not club because that's what it is. I joined many years ago and over the years I have made some very good friends. I've been through some very personal and physical issues especially lately and I've had nothing but support from this family. If there's anyone on the fence about joining and paying the minimal fee to join its well worth every penny. I can always come here no matter how far I am down in the dumps I am and always enjoy myself. I love the friendships and the banter between members. Thank each and every one of you for helping me through my hard times, I love you all! I could go on for hours about all the great members on here but I won't, thank you all!20 points

Did you ever notice... on so many of the Facebook groups dedicated to the First Generation Monte Carlo how many Scam Ads and Knock -Off T-Shirt ads they have. If yes, have you also noticed that don't see much of that here on the FGMCC site or even the Facebook group that Aaron (Canuck) manages. That is because of the screening process we use here when someone wants access to post on the site. Even if some of them do get through it is almost always quickly noticed by our moderators and admins and those posts are quickly removed and the poster banned from the site. We rarely have members scammed on items posted for sale here and we rarely have to remove posts or ban people from posting. This is a very safe place to come to for your needs. rob17 points

Today marks our 53 wedding anniversary. On a cold snowy Jan 16th day , I said yes after she asked me to marry her :). Just kidding… we had 20$ between us but by the grace of God , clawed our way thru . She’s been a blessing to me all these years , almost as much as the 71 Monte :).. kidding again. But that is the reason I’m partial to the year 71 Monte. The year we were married..17 points

The ‘71 came out of hibernation Friday. The ‘70 was extracted from her cocoon today. Both gave me no issues starting and felt great on the 10 - 12 mile initial ride. The AC compressor on the ‘71 gave up the ghost (the pretty green dye in the refrigerant matches the Lime Green Poly perfectly 😂), but whatya gonna do? New compressor already ordered and hopefully delivered and installed in time for Carlisle. PS - the day I figure out how to get pictures loaded in sequence is the day Dennis’ feet don’t appear in his pictures16 points

It's Thanksgiving 2023 and our family is all here for dinner. My oldest Grandson has his learners permit so I let him drive my 71 Monte Carlo. We had a beautiful day here in Michigan so I went to start the Monte and the battery went dead. I attached jumper cables to it and it started right up. I see that it is charging so I backed it out of the garage and let Evan take over. He drove me all over the area for almost a hour. We had a great time. Evan said the steering is a bit loose and the brakes require more pressure to stop the car than he is used to. This was such a great thing for us remembering back to when we drove him to the Woodward Dream Cruise every summer. Picture from 2009 when he was very young and now:16 points

20 years ago I was working on organizing a 70-72 Monte Carlo meet in Nevada. FGMCC founder/president Kevin Wiles liked what he saw and proposed that we make it an official club meet and the Western Meet was born. I had no idea that I would still be organizing these 20 years later. That first Western Meet had 6 members attend from three states and one province and was a fantastic experience that I still look back with fond memories. This year the 19th annual Western Meet will have 30 members from long distance all over the Western US and Canada. These don’t happen without members dedicated to travelling long distances attending these events and I want to thank those who have attended over the 20 year history.15 points

CLUB AWARDS PRESENTED: Joe Tedesco - Recognized Member Award: Joe has been a big help to us in finding ways to make the club website better. The number of things Joe has improved are too many to list but Joe has made numerous improvements and has been a big help to me in updating members status's on the boards. Also Joe's technical knowledge has been one of the first members to respond to members questions Tom Ferrante: Recognized Member Award: When a member posts on the boards and is looking for assistance and/or information Tom is the other person who is one of the first to respond. Tom has assisted many members through difficult problems and sometimes is able to help members with parts he has "In Stock" Congratulations to Joe and Tom on receiving their Recognized Member Awards. 1970 TO 1972 MONTE CARLO - STOCK CLASS: 1st Place: Willie Conforti 2nd Place: Gary Vanatter 3rd Place: Rob Peters 1970 TO 1972 MONTE CARLO - STREET CLASS: 1st Place: Dennis Tretter 2nd Place: Daniel Donlin 3rd Place: Ed Walker 1970 TO 1972 MONTE CARLO - MODIFIED CLASS: 1st Place: Joe Tedesco 2nd Place: Frank O'Connell 3rd Place: John Rodi 1995 TO 2007 MONTE CARLO - STOCK CLASS: 1st Place: Bob Wiemels 1978 TO 1988 MONTE CARLO - STOCK CLASS: 1st Place: Joe Sullivan MEMBER SPECIALITY AWARDS: Rob Peters 1970 Monte Carlo. Given by Bill Miller Jr. Co-owner of the Carlisle fairgrounds I thought one other of our members had received a Celebrity Judge Award but it is not listed on their website and I can't remember who it may have been. All three of our officers, Bob Wiemels, CK Collins and Rob Peters, were invited to be Celebrity Judges and were invited to a luncheon on the show field on Saturday. THE FIRST GENERATION MONTE CARLO CLUB RECEIVED TWO OTHER CARLISLE EVENTS AWARDS: CLUB CHALLENGE PRESENTED BY HEMMINGS: 2nd Place. This award is presented to the club based upon cars registered in the club name COOLEST CLUB HANGOUT: This award is presented by Carlisle Events to the club with the best decorated club canopy and the inner actions of their members among themselves and with the spectators and other car owners We had a several other really neat things happen while we were there: The first happened on Friday morning. Lou Santiago, who has hosted numerous television shows asked if he could interview me about my car and the club for his current show. It was a very short interview but it was really an honor and a chance to talk about the club. I have no idea when the show will be aired Also on Saturday afternoon two gentlemen from HEMMINGS CLASSIC CARS approached me and asked if I would be interested in having my car featured in that publication. I told them I would be honored but it is not a restored car and they said that would not matter. They have taken my information but I don't know for sure if or when I may hear from them, I will keep you all posted. On Saturday evening we were honored to have Lou Santiago join us at our group dinner. Bottom line is the First Generation Monte Carlo Club had a very strong showing at the Carlisle Events GM Nationals. Thank you all for attending. rob15 points

How’s that going in this cold. Average voltage drop for all models is 30 percent. All over the side of the road, parked. Monster lines at the charging stations with a four hour time limit on charging. Imma fire up an SS and go whip some donuts at the charging station. Honk Honk.14 points

I just finished my car after a 6 1/2 yr. build. I've owned the car since 1998. I made first restoration attempt in 1998/99. Moved it around in pieces until I started over in the fall 2016. I drove it to the Syracuse Nationals from Queensbury, NY. Its the furthest trip I've taken it and couldn't be happier with how everything went. Although my plans were to have come earlier and stay until Sunday, the weather held out to still make for a great trip. I came across a group of beautiful 70 - 72 Montes and saw the club banner. It didn't take long for me to join. I parked with the club on Saturday and although I walked around most of the day, I had a great time talking Montes with a bunch of the other Monte owners / enthusiast. I'm humbled by all the incredible compliments, especially coming from other Monte owners. I'm already working on plans for the 2024 Eastern Meet and hopefully can get out to Lebanon Valley for another meet up. Looking forward to seeing more incredible Montes and meeting more member in the future. Now I need a trailer! Seth14 points

Hello everyone, my name is Kevin Collins and I joined the club right around when it was formed. As you know life sometimes gets in the way and some things just get forgotten about. Unfortunately I didn’t stay up with the club, but I am happy that it is thriving ! I have a 1972 Monte Carlo that I have owned since 1985. I am currently giving her a much needed rehab and will hopefully have her back out this year.13 points

Was out walking yesterday with my wife Mona, came across a little show and shine at the senior's residence just up the road from our house. About a dozen cars. The first one I noticed is a '72 green Monte Carlo. Went around looking at the other cars, saving the Monte until last. Beautiful car, small block, bucket seats, console. The owner came up and we started to chat. I was ready to put on my salesmen hat and promote the great club we have. Turns out he's already a member, first one I've met in person. Funny thing we both live here in Oshawa, both own green cars and are named Rob. I know, no pictures, didn't happen. So here she is.13 points

Great show only two Monte’s of any kind. A black 70, the owner is on the Facebook page and told him he needs to get on this site and become a member. I need to put my stalking papers back in my trunk again. We removed everything from the trunk late year and have only been to 2 or 3 shows since and with the car not running well along with wet weekends I think we have it straightened out. I need to work on m photo posting to get them in the desired configuration, every time I try to turn the iPad they keep turning sideways again13 points

Had breakfast with my Dad and my second favorite mechanic yesterday. I’ve previously mentioned that Terry had owned a ‘71 SS that he sold many years ago, but he’s still finding various parts, memorabilia and literature etc. Yesterday he gave me a few “Super Chevys” magazines from ‘84 and ‘85. Attached are some pix and Monte-related articles… can you find the two unicorns? 🤣😂 Hint: one’s “down under” and one’s pulling the front tires off the ground. There’s a nice 2 page article on the ‘71 SS which appears on the cover of the July 1985 edition of Super Chevys “Chevy Show Place” Looks exactly like Dennis’, minus the bananas in the tailpipes And I’m definitely curious… were some of the owners as listed 40 years ago ever FGMCC members? Are these folks still alive? Are any of the Montes still around under different ownership? Perhaps some of you senior FGMCC members might know of these folks and cars.12 points

New member but old lurker here. I wanted to join the ranks of a paying member to make sure this place stays around as long as possible. I have a 1970 402 BB - Auto, factory buckets and console w/ power windows, Flint-built 08C-third week of August '69, Color 78-Black Cherry w/ B-Black vinyl top. It now has a transplanted 454 bored .030 over, dual plane Weiand intake and a dual line 650 Holley carb. Just got it running along with all new calipers, lines, discs, bearings and pads up front and new trailing arms w/ poly bushings out back. I've had the car for over 30 yrs but life and kids got in the way of working on it more often. So now I am, little by little. I've been so thankful for the information I've found here and hope to find more as well as friends in the hobby. If you are near Nashville, TN, "holler back", as they say ! Some old pics as well as some recent ones are attached as I've worked on it here lately. Dennis Bagwell12 points

Back in September of 2022 I attended a big show out here in So Cal that I try to get to every year. Cruisin for a Cure. A charity for prostate cancer awareness. My wife normally comes with me but she couldn’t. Because they offer free PSA screenings she made me promise to get screened this time. A first for me. About a week later I got a call from a doctor saying my numbers were high and that I should see my doctor ASAP. A needle biopsy confirmed I had prostate cancer. Luckily we got it early. After a little research I chose the 28 day regiment of radiation treatment at City of Hope of which I completed in early 23. Because of the sayings “you only live once” and “you can’t take it with you” I dipped into my retirement, with my wife’s blessing, and started a 6 month search to find an exact replacement for my first car. The 71 first gen I have now. My PSA numbers now are barely detectable and I feel great. I have my wife, City of Hope and my love for classic cars for quite possibly saving my life. Unfortunately my wife isn’t buying into my reasoning that because classic cars may have played a small part in saving my life, I should get some more. My point is that I know there are quite a few club members in my age group. If you haven’t had a PSA screening, get one. It could save by your life. By the way, I went to the 2023 show and thanked the people in the screening room for saving my life.12 points

Hello everyone! Thank you for allowing me to join. This is my 72’ Monte Carlo. I acquired this vehicle on a trade for a side by side. To my knowledge, I am the 4th owner. And the 3rd owner practically knew nothing about the car other than it had a new generation 6 454 with a “hot cam” and a th400 that was placed in the car roughly a year ago. Supposedly the car underwent a restoration 10 years ago, when they changed the color from gulf green to this hunter green now. The car ran fairly rough on its test drive. I could tell from my experience the car was in desperate need for a timing adjustment and a tune up. The car is running extremely rich, as evidenced by the blacker than sin spark plugs when I pulled them after I got the car home. After getting the car home, I found more and more lazy hodgepodge fixes and lazy short cuts that were taken. Unfortunately not the kind of car I was looking for. Knowing now I would have ran far away but there’s no going back! Some of the immediate issues: 1. Power steering pump was wobbling: Due to longer bolts being used and not able to tighten bracket onto the block & stripped threats in water pump so the belt cannot be tightened. 2. Crank pulley has some damage from maybe a hammer? Eventually this will shear off a belt so this needs to be addressed. 3. Car has a slight lean to the drivers front. Unsure what is causing this yet. Down the road: 1. Bubbling in C pillars underneath the vinyl top. 2. Everything else 😂 Like I said I wasn’t looking for a project, but hopefully I can fix the immediate issues and just be able to enjoy the car for a couple years. I’ll add pictures shortly!12 points

Congratulations to all who made it to the Eastern mini meet! Myself, brother and son had a great time thanks to all the great members we finally met! We had a blast even though the weather was not the best. Soooo glad we finally made it and hopefully see everyone at the 2024 Eastern Meet. I am also very humbled to receive the Recognized Member Award. I thank everyone for the honor! I'm glad I could help members and look forward to continuing to do so.12 points

After 13 months in the upholstery shop... I got it back last Saturday. Been driving it all over again. I bought it in March of 2015, put a good 20k miles on it until Nov of 2020 to restore. Dropped off March of 2022 for upholstery. Way to long but he he did a a good job and reasonable price. Still need to have vintage AC hooked up crimp lines and charge. And some outside skyglass window tint and trim. A few specs.. 383 stroker built by fgmcc Dick Savage (recently died) 700 R4 Transmission 12 bolt with 373 gears, 4 wheel Willwoood brakes 17" diamond back tires and look alike cutlass wheels. Buckets, tic tak. Full covered vinyl interior (everything is vinyl no painted trim!) 69 442 pattern Body and Paint by ME W30 Stripes taped off by club founder Kevin Wiles. Tamco Stars and Stripes Pearl White, Rock it Red Stripes. (Looks like candy)12 points

Hi all, Thank you for adding me as a member about a month ago. I joined the site looking for a First Generation Monte Carlo. I am happy to say I found a great car. It is not a show car but a great car for weekend drives, going for ice cream on a hot summer day or just a cruise through the park. I am attaching a photo of the 70 Monte I picked up last week.12 points

WHAT, you didn't get any info on this possible very rare if at all Monte???? I can see we are going to have to host a "Stalker" Seminar in the club anopy in Carlisle. Yeah, I would be surprised it it is real but we all know there has to be a 4-Speed 72 SS convertible out there someplace because it says so on the internet. rob12 points
