Aaronz28
Finally got my dream Monte - this car is a legit, documented, with Protecto-plate SS454 - the load leveler compressor is gone, but the frame clips and rear valve are still in place - motor is correct, etc. etc. The only issues that are in need of immediate attention - previous owner restored without the black vinyl top - so thats going back on in short order - and he put 15x8 on all 4 - which with the sagging front springs caused the rubber to rub on the inner fender - so i'm going to replace the wheels and tires with he correct sizes. Runs quite good - although i'm certain its due for a tuneup and the timing is clearly over advanced based on the stutter starting it does - - it has an HEI in in now - but i got the original distirbuor with the car - so i'm rebuilding that before i get into the ignition. a few other things it needs to be "RIGHT" but all in all, i've been driving the crap out of it this week and having a ball! Kids love it too

Rock
Before I bought mine I looked for 2 years trying to find a 70 SS in my price range and couldn't find one. They are hard to find.....congrats! I had to settle for much less but I am still happy with it.

MCfan
Congratulations on finding the starting point you were looking for, Aaron! That's a mighty sharp looking '70!. Sounds like a relatively unmolested SS that you can enjoy until you get it back to original condition, if that's what you want. Great to see the kids taking interest in it already - maybe it will be their's some day. Enjoy and keep us posted on your progress.

Leghome
I like it with out the vinyl also but my 72 is all red W/O vinyl top so I am very biased against vinyl tops. Some folks like them and there are others like me who do not so variety makes the world go round. Thank goodness we are all different
Aaronz28
THANKS ALL! I will enjoy the heck out of driving it while putting it back original - today - i spent about 3 hours rebuilding/restoring the original distributor which came in a box - i'm waiting on the correct coil clamp and then i'll swap em out... i also have a couple question - the trim tag shows a 10B date code - which i know is Oct - 2nd week 1969 - and my original distributor is dated 9G28 - so, 28th day of July 1969= so a few months before the car.. which makes sense. If i were to look for dated rally wheels - is there an acceptable variant in the date? the Camaro/Corvette guys are NUTZ about this stuff and maintaining proper date stuff so its ingrained into my programming as well - so i'm curious if the Chevelle/Monte guys have experience in what might be an acceptable wheel date for this car? I believe YH coded 15x7 Rallys - i actually have a set of sept 69 YH rally on my Z28 - but they are staying put! LolCheers Aaron
