  18. If you can get the latch to function by manually moving the paddle at the top or pulling on the lever on the side of the latch then it sounds like maybe the latch itself works but the rods in the door arenโ€™t pulling like they should. It could be as simple as needing lubrication. One other thing I ran into is that the pushrod on the outer door handle button wasnโ€™t long enough to push the paddle on the latch the necessary amount to open the door. I had a door handle button with a longer pushrod and cut it down to the desired length. It now opens without a problem using the door handle.

  20. OK ... I don't see the truck and new enclosed trailer that surely would be included in that price. They just concentrated on the main attraction... 72 MONTE !!!! How cool is that !!

  21. ^^good buy at 32k at that GAA auction imo! Looks like a reseller bought it. In reality I believe it's a 35-38k car if its as nice as it looks in the pictures and authentic 19k miles. Adding vintage air would help the value to command a more premium price. I've ridden the wave on these cars since 2006 and happy to see them getting some recognition but hope they stay underneath under stuff. I never thought I'd see a 4 speed or SS Monte bring more $ than a 4SDQP409 62 belair bubbletop at an auction but it's happening, hopefully those are on the way on down some more.

  23. We have added a new section in your profile to include what type of Monte you own, broken down by year, engine size, transmission, SS454, 72 Custom, etc. Also included is the option for none, and Other (LS, 5-Speed, etc). Many times someone asks for help on something, and fail to list the year, engine size, etc. This may help eliminate the added step of first asking for the info, when trying to answer someone's request. You will also be able to select multiple vehicles for those of you that own more than one (or 7, or 8 like Willie). This is only going to show up if someone selects your profile to look at, so it didn't clutter up the main forum posts in general. In the past when we added another field, a few people were asked to complete their profile, or something like that. No worries, you can either complete the fields, or click through it. I think if you scroll down that box a little, you'll see the new fields to choose from though. Any questions or suggestions (good, bad, ugly, not needed), please don't hesitate to say something. Joe T EDIT: It even asked me to complete the profile, lol. All I did was click what car I had, hit 'Next' and done. This happened to a few, when we added the 'Veteran' status a while back as well..

  24. Yes, check the mounting hardware. Basically anywhere the cable mounts. There is also a chance if everything checked out ok that the cable has stretched. In that case a new cable will be necessary. Have you thought about becoming a dues paying member? If not, wasn't this info worth 25.00? Lololol. The best 25.00 ever spent on getting correct, precise info on the first generation Monte Carlo in my humble opinion.

  25. Okee dokey, first make sure the car/trans is in park. Make sure the console shifter is in park also. Then go underneath the car and check the adjustment nut on the trans selector bracket. (Where the cable from the shifter attached to). Make sure it is tight. Then remove the 4 screws that hold the P R N D L L2 console cover off and check the adjustment nut, just like on the trans but on the shifter itself. While there also check the upper and lower cable mounting clips to make sure they are still retaining the cable. If it's only the speedo that is off, remove the lower dash panel under the column, locate the screw on the column for the little shift cable and adjust accordingly. I hope this helps.

  26. Did you hook up the back drive linkage from the transmission to the steering column during your swap? If not, check to see if the steering column collar turned a bit (the part where the old shift handle was). Maybe you bumped it in use, and it rotated clockwise a little.

  27. As others noted, that's a Turbo 350, not a 400. Nice car with a classy color combination but yeah, a bit high on the price. There's a part of me that wants them to get big money for it because it helps to drive the value of our cars up. Monte Carlo's have been the step child of the classic car world for too long - no respect, which has held values down. I did look at Hagerty recently and the average for a '70 in excellent condition is up to $31k. Progress.

  28. @snomobeelr Mine is about the same (axles) and I've heard others mention it as well. As far as gearing goes, I went from 3.73 to 3.08. If you have a Turbo 350 or Turbo 400 and you do any highway driving, you start to push the RPM comfort level with anything above 3.55 (in my opinion). There is a nice RPM/gear ration calculator on this page. All you need to know is your tire height and gear ratio. Pretty handy. Good luck!

  29. The guy who purchased mine in September drove it 1,700 miles home to Iowa without a hiccup. It really is an amazing driving car like it was new. I only maintained what was necessary (bleed brakes, change all fluids, change filters, new belts/hoses, new tires). The car still had original shocks, plug wires, etc. The guy has since added another 1,000 miles since he got it home. I sold it for less than half of the car posted. As for your car, I can see someone who really wanted it offering $35k. That is on the high end for a small block but not out of line for a really well maintained 350 car in great condition with some of the prices Iโ€™ve seen.

  31. 100% agreed. Basically a no option car, at a premium asking price. Someone took a creative writing class in school too, based on a couple of those descriptions, lol... 350 CID 4BBL V8 Engine: Powerful and iconic, providing a thrilling driving experience. (not as thrilling as a big block) 12 Bolt Rear End, Power Steering, and Power Brakes: Modern driving comforts in a classic package. (modern cars have A/C, power windows, locks, etc) Factory Seat Belts: Safety features that align with modern standards. (modern standards?...like air bags?)

  32. Today was the shortest day of the year. From here on the days will start to get longer every day. This means it can't be long before we will be arriving in Carlisle for the Eastern Meet. If you have not already made your reservations to attend you need to start making your plans. Put in for your vacation time, get onto those Monte winter projects. Get your car registered with Carlisle Events, make your hotel reservations. If you need any information on any of this please contact me by email at rob29ford@aol.com or shoot me a PM here on the site. This should be a great meet. For this upcoming Eastern Meet, that Friday will be the longest day of the year which should be great for our evening bench racing. rob

  33. I personally purchased a 3.31 gear, Detroit trutrac, and bearing kit from quick performance. Check out their kits. The axles I went with are strange c-clip street/strip axles. The builder is a strange dealer and recommended quick performance. He builds 6sec race cars, chassis and the like. My little 12 bolt was a breath of ez pz as he said. Lolol

  34. I ended picking up all 3 years that pertain to our cars, plus assembly manuals, Fisher body, etc. Makes it easier when trying to research members questions, and also there are some differences between the 3 years. (The pages above came from one of those CDs, though I copied them to folders on the PC, and network drive).

  37. I got my cloth seat covers from Legendary Auto Interiors. They take a long time to come since they typically make them after you order them but they are good quality. They matched my original seats perfectly. The web site doesn't show the 1970 Monte covers but give them a call.
