  1. They had a news conference this morning with some new information as well as the old. Dave Kindig and Kevin dog will be there all 3 days and will be bringing a couple cars that they built. Also the county kicked In some cash and they will increase advertising to make show even bigger and better. They are trying to make this show the biggest and best in the country over the next few years. Also the midway tent will be back up this year for bands in the evening. So no really new and huge information but only 110 days until the show. Also announced that over 80 thousand dollars was raised for local charity's and something like 10 million went into local economy so that's something. Gonna be a good time for sure.

  2. The 'Loop' carpet is the correct type Paul. If you get the 'Mass Backing' option , it does look & fit nicer, though it costs a bit more. FWIW, I've gotten them from OC Auto Carpets in the past, but recently found that Rock Auto sells the exact same product and was cheaper. They all drop ship from ACC anyways. Getting them direct from ACC is the most expensive way to go. Right now, they're $169 at OC, add $71 for the Mass backing' ($241) https://www.ocautocarpets.com/product/2063/1970-1972-chevrolet-monte-carlo-2dr-auto/ Looks like $144 at Rock Auto for the standard Loop, and $204 for the Mass backing https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/chevrolet,1971,monte+carlo,7.4l+454cid+v8,1055641,interior,flooring,1264 The shipping was half the price at Rock also, at least to my location. ($16 vs $37). Worth a look at any rate. Matching ACC floor mats can be found at the same time, with savings at Rock as well compared to the other sites.

  4. I got a 73 GP for the wife before we got married. She loved it!! My Farther In-law and I loved it too with that extra long nose. Thank God she never needed the nose as she is a pretty good driver. A giant step up from the 70 nova family car she used to drive back then!! She is not a car girl and now drives a honda!!! lol

  9. You can't just throw shims at it randomly like you're doing. You need to measure the clearance and go from there. You need to have proper knurled starter mounting bolts too. Here's a couple ways to check: https://static.summitracing.com/global/images/instructions/sum-820323-os starter inst.pdf https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c1-and-c2-corvettes/4264063-starter-gear-not-disengaging.html#post1599257070 One more. Sometimes you have to use a shim inboard, outboard, half a shim, etc.:

  10. At least they wouldn't give you a 6 month 'Backordered' experience, the carpets usually ship straight from the manufacturer, lol. I'm curious what they want for shipping. Maybe I'll create an order just to see. (EDIT: looks like they'd charge about $40 - fedex ground). I'm also not seeing the option to get it with the Mass Backing, but it may be there. Moot point, it's cheaper at Rock Auto anyways. Any chance you may be able to come out to Carlisle this year?

  11. Good Morning, Well, after today we have 82 days and a wake-up until our members start arriving for the Eastern Meet. I know that sounds like a long time but on Saturday we will hit 79 days and a wake-up and that doesn't sound as bad. rob

Yeah, there were more than a few unhappy purists that shot dirty looks in my direction. Quite amusing how easily some people get fired up.

  19. Obviously the first set of patch panels are junk. The Jegs ones certainly look like a winner for sure, and even though they'll take some work to install, they look to be a quantum leap forward. I recall Leo saying in a phone conversation that the aftermarket fenders take less time to get to a usable state than making repair panels fit. I wonder how these will stack up in that equation. Bring them with you to Carlisle, Leo is supposed to be there as well and may be interested in seeing them, (if he hasn't already).

  21. Got them yesterday. Iā€™m pretty impressed. I lined them up with the other patch panel and a nos 70 fender. Critics welcome. This is for most all of us. Letā€™s figure out whatā€™s wrong and right.

  22. I put a little dab of RTV at the keyway when putting the balancer back on. Oil could ride thru that slot and make its way out the front. Much the same when installing a new yoke on a pinion gear at the rear differential. They say to put a bit of RTV there also, to stop the lube from migrating thru the splines.

  26. Or they were trying to split the load on a circuit to different rooms (example: rooms with a common interior wall between them may share outlets, etc). If you put one complete room on a breaker, there's a better chance of popping it maybe. It does make it harder to find the right breaker though. I made a map of my house with all the circuits, outlets, switches, and what breaker they were tied to fairly soon after I moved in, as we did some rewiring, added 3-way switches, added some circuits.

  29. One of the best cars I ever owned, after driving a 68 falcon, 67 vw bug, and a 62 dodge dart, this car was like driving a dream car . Even tho I prefer the first generation now, I alway liked the 4 headlight system.. someone has an 77 and brought it to the 2022 Carlisle meet. Was in excellent condition.. 77 was my favorite second genā€¦ Monteā€¦

  35. On my 70 monte the engine had a high performance camshaft that took to much vacuum. I had to install a rotory vane vacuum pump. Machined a plate to mount the pump to the frame and wired it to the ignition. It worked great. This was the car that the inspector lied about road testing the car. I had so many problems with that car I had to get rid of it. I found a Really nice 71 monte close to home. I bought it and transferred all the best best parts from the 70 before I sold it.

  39. Ray, You first logged in in August of 2004. That means you have been checking in on the club website for almost 20 years. As far as the post count is concerned, it currently showing you as 132 but that count is incorrect, it may be many, many more than what is showing because a few years ago we updated our club website and when that happened everyone here lost their post count and started back to "0". Looking at your profile, since September of 2018 you logged onto the club website over 320 times which calculates out to over 50 times a year so almost weekly. Even if you have offered up information to others here, I am sure you have also asked for information. The dues for our club are not only to keep the club up and running it is also to keep this website operational. Web hosting is not free, nor is keeping a club operational with expenses like the website, mailings, club insurance and many other bills that must be paid. Compared to other clubs, our dues are not very high. Is our dues worth $25.00? I think you would not find any other First Generation Monte Carlo Club website or for that matter any Monte Carlo Club Website with as much available information available or as reasonably priced club dues. I am sorry if you are offended if some of our members are urging you and others to become a dues paying member, it is because it is the dues paying members that are making it possible to keep this club and this website operational... especially when they see someone who has been benefiting from from the use of the club website for almost 20 years. If when you say.. "Having said that I am outta here." and "Goodby" mean you won't be returning that is your choice and I am sorry you feel that way, but the club will survive on our dues paying members who know a good thing when they see it. rob

  40. 1). ā€œTo the "jack handle" pic poster I suggest you buy some inner fenders and the use the lug nut end of the jack handle to pry open your butt and let out some of the s--t you are so full of. Doing some research after the jack handle I noticed that I am not the only one who has been honored with a wise [censored] arm twisting about paying dues. I felt good knowing I was not alone.ā€œ Correct. You are/were not alone in the ranks of site visitors whoā€™ve been called out after not contributing. Not the first, and probably not the last. No sacred cows, as they say. And not for nothing, we have members who live overseas - who will likely never attend a meet - become dues paying members. We also have members whoā€™ve paid dues for years and never comment. They understand and respect the whole concept of reciprocity as it pertains to the benefits they reap from the site even if they never post. The magic which happens behind the FGMCC curtain takes time, effort and yesā€¦ money. 2). ā€œFor the mathematically challenged that boils down to just over 1 post a month if I indeed have been a non dues paying member for 10 years. I can't recall the "Member Since nnnn" number right now but let's just say 10 years for the h--l of it.ā€ šŸ¤”ā€¦ ā€œmathematically challengedā€, eh? Hereā€™s an equation for ya: 2024 - 2004 = 20 years Hereā€™s an explanation of these variables for those keeping score at home: (Current Year) - (Year LS65Speed Happened Upon the FGMCC Boards) = (Years Wallet Evaded Pry Tool) In the time you spent crafting your response, you couldā€™ve PayPalā€™d your $25 dues several times over and been on the other side of the ā€œtwo class systemā€ šŸ™„

  41. I hear you, Markā€¦and I agree, 100%. However, maybe my not-so-subtle attempt at sarcasm and ball busting influenced the (lack of) responses. Yeah, Iā€™m blunt at times, but I also feel that people occasionally need to be gently reminded that answers to questions - even ā€œsimpleā€ questions - requires time. There are people here who spend a considerable amount of their time digging through resources, old parts and prior FGMCC site content to provide the best available answers and advice to anyone who asks. On occasion, itā€™s perceived this time and effort is taken for granted. To put it in perspective, one would likely be charged for simply consulting a mechanic to diagnose a problem; here, one will not only find the experience and expertise of those mechanically inclined, theyā€™ll reap the benefit of knowledge from those who own the same car. In my mind $25 is the bargain of the century for access to this Monte Carlo treasure troveā€¦ even if you have to endure my unorthodox method of criticism. Please donā€™t interpret my barbs as personalā€¦ Iā€™d tell my mom the very same thing. And not for nuthinā€™ā€¦ I responded to your comment in under an hour, Mark. See? I didnā€™t make you wait 2 days.
